Protecting Your Skin from the SuN

For some of us, the sun is a highly sought-after asset – precious as gems – for we don’t get enough of it. Blame it on the cool climate in our region throughout the year or just the unfortunate location of our home – we crave to see sunlight in our balconies or terrace for at least a few hours every day.

So, if you live in such an area, here’s what you can do to keep your skin safe from the sun when stepping out of home

Top 5 Tips to Protect your Skin from the Sun

Don’t forget sunscreen, even if it’s too sunny outside
You might often not be tempted to apply sunscreen if it’s cloudy but in areas where usually the sun is very strong, it’s an absolute must to protect yourself from UV even if the sun’s hidden. Always put on sunscreen at least half an hour before stepping outside. Don’t forget to put on a lip balm or lipstick that contains sunscreen with SPF of at least 30, to protect your lips from getting chapped

Choose a careful time to go to the beach
Water and sand reflect the damaging sun rays, thereby increasing the chances of sunburn, when exposed to

them for longer. Be extra careful around areas like beach; if possible, choose a time when the sun isn’t too strong. A few hours before sunset would be ideal.

Follow the shadow rule 1

The shadow rule says that the sun’s rays tend to be the

strongest when your own shadow is shorter than yourself. Apply it when deciding to be out; ideally, limit your outings between 10 am and 4 pm – the time when the sun’s rays are the most intense. If you need to be out around this time, however, do look for shade and stay under

Choose protective clothing
It’s only natural to wear tees and shorts in summer; they seem to be the most comfortable, but perhaps aren’t too protective when it comes to guarding against the sun. If you know you’re going to be out in the sun for a whole day, put on long sleeves and long pants. Also, dark-coloured clothes that are tightly woven tend to block more sunlight than whites or loosely woven clothing

Accessorise; now is the time more than ever
If you love showing off trendy hats and cool sunglasses, do it now. Hats would shade your face,

neck, and ears. Get lenses for sunglasses which have at least 99% UV absorption to protect delicate eye area.

Enjoy the sun while it lasts but be protected; you don’t want to end up with skin cancer

Thank you so much
